10 YEARS in 6 MOnTHS
THE MISSION TO DO 100 NEW THINGS WITH CY
That’s My Guy, His Name Is Cy
It’s been so hard to think about everything that’s happened in the past month let alone write about it.
Cy took a turn for the worst towards the end of a four-day road trip. And our greatest fear is coming true: We might even get six months with our little guy.
What is Addison’s Disease And Why Am I Asking?
I look over his labs daily. I read about everything hourly. And I’m lost every minute. My latest thoughts have been towards Addison’s Disease or Hypoadrenocorticism, often described as the opposite of Cushings syndrome or Hyperadrenocorticism.
A Little Help From Cy’s Friends
Just a few of Cy’s BFFs that he loved running around with this past month.
Idyling A While
There’s going to be good days and bad days. That’s all anyone could say. It’s a horrible thing when our bodies betray us. But if you look at life as vast as an ocean, as the Buddhist analogy goes, things or life happens in waves.
Keeping Up With The Ford/WisneskiEs
I barely remember the first day I met Jessica. We both were interning at an indie music magazine in Los Angeles. We used to go to lunch together. We had bonded over sorting through and cataloging giant mail crates in the office and exchanging CDs at Amoeba Records.
We’re Not Influencers
I’ve never had a dog that watched TV. And to be fair, Cy doesn’t always watch TV unless there are animals involved. He can’t really be bothered with our human stories. So I thought it might be fun to have a movie party.
A Smart Doggo
Cy graduated his first obedience class! I put Cy into PetSmart’s beginner obedience class to start his training with us. It was one of few classes that I was able to find on a last-minute notice that allowed multiple dogs in one class during quarantine.
15 Seconds of Fame
Cy’s been my little helper in the studio before, but he’s never been the star of the show… and frankly, I’m not sure if it’s his thing.
Long Walks On The… Anywhere
It’s late. It’s so late. But we just got home and we can’t just go to bed.
I strap on Cy’s beacon, a clip on light with flashing options, take him off lead and open the door.
Cy’s First Escalator
After paddling Cy hit another milestone… riding his first escalator. It was almost a disaster. His method was to put his two front paws on the moving step… as they moved upwards he let them stretch him out to get his back paws on then he would be in a laying position until the steps moved upward and he regained a sitting position.
The First Paddle
I can hear Carah and AJ in the distance, laughing as they paddle away. It’s just Cy and I now, floating on the water. Cy’s laying down in the middle of the kayak, nuzzled up against my legs. He’s both scared and curious… as am I.
Grocery Shopping With Cy
He like’s bread.
Cy Cy’s Day Off
There’s this weird balancing game that I’m playing now between maintaining Cy’s health and just going crazy with adventures. I constantly have to remind myself that I have to be the mindful one, aware of his well being. He can’t tell me when he’s in pain and he can’t tell me what he’s feeling. I have to keep looking for the signs, the symptoms.
We’re (almost) Famous: Dog Stories
One of my best friends and former colleague Surane Weerasinghe cohosts an amazing podcast just about dogs: Dog Stories. After telling him about Cy’s story and diagnosis, Surane invited us to share our story on the podcast.
I look over his labs daily. I read about everything hourly. And I’m lost every minute. My latest thoughts have been towards Addison’s Disease or Hypoadrenocorticism, often described as the opposite of Cushings syndrome or Hyperadrenocorticism.
